Meeting my sponsored child, Adly, in Egypt was a gift from God. I’m a grandmother from Texas, who loves and adores children. I added 7 year old Adly to my family only two months before our team traveled to Upper Egypt. Excited would not describe the way I felt knowing I would actually meet him. I had a bag of gifts for him but more than that, I had a hug and I wanted him to see my face and eyes and know my love for him and his family was genuine and my love was for always. When I got to his home after 5:00 in the evening, he was not there. His mom said he had waited all day and thought I was not coming and he left crying. I’m not sure I have ever felt so much disappointment; I wanted to cry right along with Adly. My group had about waited as long as we could and I said, “God, if I’m to leave the gifts and go, I accept it.” About that time, in ran my little boy. We hugged and got to know each other, made a picture or two and I gave the gifts I had brought for him and his family. I gave him a little picture album of my family back in Texas; my little dog too. As he held the album close to his heart he said, “I keep”. Being connect to someone who cares is indeed a treasure of the heart!
